This is an essay by my granpa who has been an engineer and avid political supporter of Christian values. He has written many letters to the editor not only here in Virginia but also in Kingston, New York, where he moved from; many of which have been published and/or answered.
Why I Can’t Vote For Obama
Barack Obama claims that he would be a President that would stand up for the poor, the hurting and the most vulnerable in our country. Yet he has a record of warring against the most vulnerable and most innocent human lives – unborn babies.
Since he went to primary school in
Barack Obama has consistently voted against every law that would in any way limit the unbridled exercise of “abortion rights”. He even is against the Partial Birth Abortion Ban which bans the barbaric practice of partially delivering a late term baby (except for the head) and then reaching in and crushing the baby’s head before completing the delivery.
It is also clear that he would nominate pro-abortion Supreme Court justices that would legislate more abortions “rights” from the bench instead of following our Constitution.
He has also stated that he would sign the “Freedom of Choice Act” that would nullify virtually all federal and state limitations on abortion, including the limitations now allowed by the Supreme Court, such as parental notification and waiting period laws. He would also support the liberal funding of abortions by the federal government. The FOCA law would also make partial-birth abortion legal again.
It gets even worse. While a member of the Illinois State Senate, he voted against the Born Alive Infant Protection Act in 2003 and thus killed the bill in the committee that he chaired. This law would have required hospital care and comfort for babies who were accidentally born alive as a result of late-term abortions. This same law was passed at the federal level without a dissenting vote in the U.S. Congress. Apparently Obama thinks it’s better to throw these infants in the garbage rather than give comfort and appropriate care even though these little ones have a low chance of survival.
This hits home for us since four years ago a sonogram showed that our unborn grandson had a very serious brain problem. Although encouraged to abort, our daughter carried her son to term. Even though he died 18 hours after birth we had the bittersweet joy of being able bring him home, hold him close and tell him we loved him.
Twenty four years ago our oldest daughter became pregnant while in college. She could have quietly had an abortion and we would have not known. But she knew that she carried a unique human life within her and made a courageous decision to keep her baby.
Today he’s all grown up and is about to graduate from college. We are very proud of him and of his mom who has recently resumed her college career.
This morning as I was playing with my 11 month old grandson, watching him crawl around and discover life, I grieved for the 48 million American babies that tragically never got to see the light of day. How great is the injustice that has been done to these precious, innocent, most vulnerable little ones!
I can’t vote for Barack Obama who seems to have so little respect for human life. I have to go with what the bible says:

I’ll be voting for John McCain who has a consistently pro-life record regarding abortion.

I would agree with your grandfather's letter. Obama is pro-choice, and that is why I would not vote for him if I could vote this election. However, that does not mean I would vote for McCain. Sorry Mikey, the man is not pro-life. His record shows he votes pro-life only when government spending is not involved. Here is some things he's said on the abortion issue: Third Presidential Debate

someone to the Supreme Court who disagrees with you on Roe v. Wade?
McCAIN: I would never, and have never in all the years I've been there, imposed a litmus test on any nominee to the Court. That's not appropriate to do.
Q: But you don't want Roe v. Wade to be overturned?
McCAIN: I thought it was a bad decision. I think that decision should rest in the hands of the states. I'm a federalist. And I believe strongly that we should have nominees to the Supreme Court based on their qualifications rather than any litmus test. They should be judged on their qualifications. I will find the best people in America who have a history of strict adherence to the Constitution. And not legislating from the bench.
Q: Even if it was someone who had a history of being for abortion rights?
McCAIN: I would consider anyone on their qualifications. Someone who has supported Roe v. Wade, that would be part of those qualifications. But I certainly would not impose any litmus test.
Also: (speaking about his vice-presidential choices) "...I feel that — and I'm not trying to equivocate here — that Americans want us to work together. You know, Tom Ridge is one of the great leaders and he happens to be pro-choice. And I don't think that that would necessarily would rule Tom Ridge out."

Also: In August 1999, McCain told the San Francisco Chronicle that he would "not support repeal of Roe vs Wade" because it would force women to undergo illegal operations.
Also: "In the final blow to any hope that McCain's choice of Palin had any depth, "she said her view wasn't the official McCain-Palin policy". What's more, there is uncertainty as to whether McCain will fully embrace the Republican platform on abortion. This lack of clarity should be a concern. A pro-life candidate would not draw such uncertainty."
If McCain believe Roe vs. Wade should be overturned, it is only because he believes the abortion issue should go to the states. If the abortion issue is what you vote on, don't vote for McCain. Rather, vote for Alan Keyes, the American independent who has a strong, strong pro-life record and believes that the right to life is guaranteed by our Constitution.
Ok, I still believe he's pro-life, maybe just not as pro-life as we might want him to be.
But yes, the only argument that I am trying to make, actually my granpa is trying to make, is that you cannot vote for a man, regardless of his others views, who condones, or even just will allow, abortion.
I'm not quite sure if I would vote for McCain if I could, I probably would, but I could not support nor vote for Obama with his policy on this issue.
This is from John McCain's official platform. Whether or not he will continue with these values in office can be questioned as easily as any other issue of any other president. But this is pro-life enough to get my vote over Barack Obama.

Whether or not he is able to accomplish this goal is also debatable but I would rather have someone with this view in the office of president than someone in favor of even more liberal abortion laws. That's why I would vote for John McCain.
I can't/won't vote for Obama and your grandfather does a good job explaining why (witness Obama's desperate attempts to cover up his support of infanticide). I suppose I will grit my teeth and vote for McCain even though I think that he is a nitwit, knows zilch about economic matters and could care less, and (my opinion) is that he is pro-life mostly out of political necessity.

I meant that he really isnt the most enthusiastic pro-life supporter I've ever seen, whereas I would like him to be even more pro-life. If you wanna call that sort of pro-life, its a free country. But the actual intent of this post is to show the naive hypocrisy of a true Christian with biblical values voting for Barack Obama. And yes, I believe the most important reason for voting for John McCain is simply to keep Obama and his abortion laws out of the White House. (even if it means a little gritting of the teeth)
